Rohit Bhargava made a nice post about the 9 types of “Social Media Experts” this morning. It does a great job of defining, and differentiating, the various forms that a social media professional can take…and that there is really no one catch-all type of expert. I particularly liked how he points out that one way to “excuse yourself from the entire debate [is by] by saying that no one is REALLY an expert and we are all just people who use these tools and try our best.”
Personally, I would say that his point right there is a category in itself…“the student.” Social media is arguably the fastest changing communications channel, and we all must keep reading, learning, trying, and sharing in order to maintain a certain level of knowledge and expertise.

This morning I ran across a cool app called CauseWorld. It takes the FourSquare concept and applies it to supporting good causes.
Check in at stores and earn “karmas” from sponsors. When you earn enough karmas you can donate them for good deeds – from offsetting our carbon footprint or planting a tree…to supporting cancer patients or even feeding a chimp! Sponsors donate real money!

I found this really useful infographic showing how Fortune 100 companies are using social media. A little surprised to see that more of them have a Twitter presence (65%) than a Facebook presence (54%).
